A standout film that’s incredibly compelling. The Danish movie is an impressive story that explores women’s rights in a gripping and confrontational way.

Loosely based on a true story, the Dagmar Overbye serial killer case, The Girl with the Needle introduces us to Karoline, played by Vic Carmen Sonne, a young woman who’s a factory worker in post-First World War Coppenhagen. When she becomes unemployed, and pregnant, she connects with Dagmar (Trine Dyrholm) who runs a black market adoption operation. As Karoline takes on the role of a wet-nurse for the babies that pass through Dagmar’s care, she realizes her circumstances are more horrific than she initially believed.
